Who the hell is Iron & Silks?
Iron & Silks is a solo-run, independent "newsroom" and media outlet that digs deeper into personal awareness, political awareness, spiritual awareness, and the rise of misinformation about how we connect to our bodies and to others. Iron & Silks is rooted in the conjuration of both digital and print media, expanding worldwide.
We send love notes to your inbox. Make sure you subscribe if you'd like to stay up to date and receive an email from us!
The focus of Iron & Silks is rooted in personal narratives backed by ancestral veneration, historical implications, and grounding in bodily autonomy, sexuality, spirituality, and all taboo areas of conversation. From personal decisions and experiences to policy and justice issues, we weave, like a silkworm, so that you are able to configure those remnants into your own life as a reader.
Right now, in this moment, we are at a crossroads in communications, media, and workplaces where many Black, Indigenous, and those who are non-white are STILL consistently being pushed to the wayside, while white-run media attempts to rule and manipulate our psyches. Here at Iron & Silks, we aim to challenge these narratives, to remember what we are here – the dream weave of ourselves as weapons against fascist regimes.
We strive to move in alignment and not gatekeep information. If you are in a well-enough or high-income tax bracket, we do ask that you make a small monthly or annual donation to assist us in running this newsroom, so that we can expand our writing here and maintain the resources we need to succeed in publication.
The goal here is to connect, call out injustices, and imagine new worlds of being – even in the depths of our subconscious.
At Iron & Silks, we believe in:
• The audacity to exist. We're here to focus on stories that get pushed to the wayside by big publishers; stories from sex workers, from folks who are on indigenous lands, and those who are of African Diasporic traditions that have real deal shit happening in their communities.
• The right to free speech. Iron & Silks is about weaving in all parts of a narrative to inform the greater public. We want to know – how does our access to tools take us to magical places? How do we make lavish reflections about who we are as a people?
• Strong abolition focus. Maybe that says enough, but let's break it down for those in the back. Eliminating systems of harm is about keeping folks accountable. Iron & Silks is about call-outs having more to do with imagining new ways of being, rather than just spilling the tea on what's going on.
Who in the Oz is behind the curtain?
Iron & Silks is operated by Mo Viviane, who is an independent journalist who focuses on harm reduction, sexuality, gender identity, trans healthcare access, art in queer and trans communities. To learn more about their writing in other outlets, check the link here.
As someone who is from Kentucky, you rarely hear about the experiences of Black rural Kentuckians and the narratives that drive them. For Viviane, asking, "Why are newsrooms prioritizing stories about white political figures when Black and Indigenous folks are out here living REAL lives with the backing of their ancestors? And why is that not considered journalism? What happened to the oldest technology that we hold – storytelling?
And that is why Iron & Silks exists.

Until next time.
Keep it real, keep it grounded, and keep creating.
